Its one kind of spice. There are like a big variety of spicy or hot food. [Peter reaches out to pluck up a piece of sushi with his chopsticks from the plate to pop into his mouth.]
Mostly talking about New York. Nothing super serious at least.
[Peter is quite as he chews thoughtfully, May's insistence on some manners at least sticking around with the eighteen year old.]
I mean, you're family, so I don't see why they wouldn't let you stay? [He says this plainly enough, not aware of Casey's complicated history with Leo, much less the tangled mess of everything that's happened. He just feels like the Hamato's wouldn't want Casey to leave.] Leo is bringing me back with him, so, we'd both be adjusting to the lair.
[Casey's eyes widen at that. (Surprise, immediately following the little bubble of warmth at the idea that he might already be considered family, and that him being welcome is a given. It's very kind, and he hopes it's true.)]
That's right! I remember that coming up before. [Was it with Leo? Was it Peter himself? Shrug. The info is Out There.] You guys must really be close, if you'd give up your world to go with him, huh.
[He's never dated anyone before, kind of low priority for both age and the life he's led, but many relationships in the apocalypse were... short term, low commitment. For obvious reasons. And he's kind of only known single parents. Giving your life up for your partner (not in the literal sense) seems like a pretty big deal.]
[Peter later might wonder if he overstepped in speaking for Leo's family, but... it feels right. Of course Casey is a part of it. It's Casey.]
Oh- yeah- [Peter distantly remembers the conversation, though it was slightly overshadowed by Casey being shocked by the fact Peter and Leo are dating.] I think when we first met maybe? Not super sure.
I love him, so, I want to stay with him. [He fiddles with the chopsticks absently, picking up a tempura veggie.
He isn't sure if he should get into his whole... being dead thing. Casey has enough on his plate as is.] I don't have anywhere else to be anyway... [He dips the tempura'd broccoli into a bit of wasabi.] I'll always choose him anyway.
[He pops it into his mouth with little problem, not too bothered by the spiciness.]
[If Casey counts as family then Peter absolutely does. He gets full family rights. Them's the rules.
The rest of what Peter says is all very sweet, and it's obvious that he means it. It's still early enough that the idea of Leo dating anyone is a little weird for him - still figuring out how to navigate this Leo being his peer and not the larger-than-life sensei who raised him - but he at least has the sense to keep those mental hurdles to himself. Genuinely, he's happy for them.]
It's... really nice. To see sensei happy with somebody, I mean. And I'm glad that he can give you a place the belong too, if it's what you need. [He smiles a bit sheepishly.] Is it weird to feel kinda happy, knowing someone else will be in the same position? At least we can help each other...
I know its a little weird for you, but... I'm glad you approve. [He means that as well, wishing he could phrase it a bit better. Casey isn't some scary figure in Leo's life that Peter needs approval of, but he's still someone important.] It feels nice to belong somewhere. I'm happy I make him happy too.
I don't think its weird, its like- a relief, you know? Adjusting is way harder alone.
[Peter's being very kind about it, but the gentle callout still makes Casey wince a little. Yeah, he'd been... way too obvious.]
I'm sorry. [Because yeah, it's merited.] I really should've kept it together. The last thing I'd want is for anyone to think I didn't... I don't know, approve of it. Not that you'd need it.
[Certainly not from him. He could try and explain, but that would just feel like an excuse for poor behaviour.]
You're fine, Casey. [Peter answers with a little shrug.
He fiddles with his chopsticks absently again, his mind thinking back to how Not Great Tony and Leo's introduction went.] It was a way better reaction than we've had before, so, I think you're more than fine. It was kind of a shock since it was sudden for you.
We both just care about Leo, and want to see him happy, that's the main thing.
[He's not sure if that makes him feel better (who did it worse? Does he need to attempt to menace someone) but he's grateful for Peter's understanding. It definitely wasn't meant to be malicious.]
Yeah... that's true for sure. I'm still figuring out how to be around everyone, and I don't want to screw it up. But if that's what I focus on, maybe it'll be okay.
Its gonna take time I think- cause I know for sure a lot has changed for Leo, Donnie compared to when you last saw them too. Not- a lot of great stuff happened at the ADI. [He thinks back to Donnie all but forgetting Leo, to the weird mysteries they had to deal with, the whole guy turned into a bear thing- it was a lot.] I think, we all need that time to figure each other out, and find footing.
[Casey is quiet at that for a moment, looking somewhat pensive as he chews his way through a few more bits of sushi.]
I haven't heard much about ADI... just that it wasn't a great place for anyone. I hope this world can be good for you guys, even if it's not as good as being home.
If you ever want to ask any questions, feel free to. I'll tell you what I did know. They didn't exactly tell us much. [Peter fiddles with his chopsticks again, trying to decide how he feels about the ADI after all this time. The sense of freedom, peace- relief is such a stark contrast to where he was before.]
It wouldn't be bad to stay a long while, so Leo, Donnie, Raph and Rue can enjoy all of this.
[He considers the offer. Does it count as going behind their backs if Peter was there to see it? Probably not, but it still feels weird to ask about what happened. Hmm.]
Is there anything you want to talk about it? Or- anything I should know?
[No one's obligated to share with him, but his priority is and always will be his family. He wants to be able to help them, if they need it.]
It'd probably be good if you knew about a specific thing. [Peter rests his elbow against the tabletop. His usual ravenous appetite squelched for the moment as he frowns.] I'm not even sure why this happened, but... Donnie forgot Leo existed at all.
He remembered the rest of their family, but not Leo. It lasted for a long time too.
I- I can imagine. [It's not the same, but considering he's been dealing with a similar feeling of being the only one 'forgotten' by his family? He can deeply sympathize with how it must have hurt.] I'll... try to keep that in mind. That isn't something that anybody would be able to shrug off fast, even sensei.
I can guess it... didn't really help things with them, but, they're figuring things out. [Peter is staying firmly out of Donnie and Leo's months long spanning argument.] It was already hard for them and Rue, and then that happened too.
Yeah, the ADI really wasn't... friendly to non-humans. [Peter is aware he was mostly human enough, he was fine. He was mutated, but not outwardly. He was fine.]
The ADI started falling apart towards the end, and everyone was starting to break away to go on their own, but, the non-humans had nowhere else to go.
I'm glad they came here then... that all of us did. No one cares if someone's human or not here.
[Who knows if he'd have met Peter or Rue otherwise. It's still not a perfect scenario - they're missing half the family - but at least they can be themselves.]
You don't have to apologize. Hanging out doesn't mean it can't be serious. Otherwise, how are you supposed to share the big stuff with friends?
[Not that he's an expert at hanging out or friends his age, but it's a simple enough concept. Still, if Peter wants to lighten the subject, he won't object.]

So that's spice, huh. [Flavoured food sure is, uh. Adventurous. It's not a bad thing though, now that the surprise has worn off.] Where were we...?

They had the power to do that?
[Poor Leo...]

Donnie remembered, thankfully, but it was... not great. [Leo had struggled with that, and all Peter could do was try to support him as a friend then.]

[Easy to see the common denominator there. Earth of the past was... weird... about mutants and yokai.]
